अनन्तश्चास्मि नागानां वरुणो यादसामहम् | पितॄणामर्यमा चास्मि यमः संयमतामहम्
anantaścāsmi nāgānāṃ varuṇo yādasāmaham . pitṝṇāmaryamā cāsmi yamaḥ saṃyamatāmaham
സർപ്പങ്ങളിൽ ഞാൻ അനന്തനാണ്; ജലദേവതകളിൽ ഞാൻ വരുണനാണ്. പിതൃക്കളിൽ ഞാൻ അര്യമാവാണ്; നിയമപാലകരിൽ ഞാൻ യമനാണ്.
Among snakes I am Ananta, and Varuna among gods of the waters. Among the manes I am Aryama, and among the maintainers of law and order I am Yama (King of death).
അനന്തൻ പത്തി വിരിച്ച സർപ്പങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവാണ്. അദ്ദേഹം അഗ്നിവർണ്ണനാണ്. വരുണൻ ജലദേവന്മാരുടെ രാജാവാണ്. ജലവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ദേവതകളാണ് ജലദേവതകൾ. അര്യമാവ് പിതൃക്കളുടെ രാജാവാണ്. എല്ലാ ജീവികളുടെയും കർമ്മങ്ങൾക്ക് സാക്ഷിയായി, ആളുകളുടെ നല്ലതും ചീത്തയുമായ പ്രവൃത്തികളുടെ കണക്കുകൾ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന യമനാണ് ഞാൻ.
