सक्ताः कर्मण्यविद्वांसो यथा कुर्वन्ति भारत | कुर्याद्विद्वांस्तथासक्तश्चिकीर्षुर्लोकसंग्रहम्
saktāḥ karmaṇyavidvāṃso yathā kurvanti bhārata . kuryādvidvāṃstathāsaktaścikīrṣurlokasaṃgraham
Ô descendant de la dynastie des Bhārata, de même que les personnes ignorantes agissent avec attachement à l'œuvre, de même la personne éclairée devrait agir, sans attachement, désireuse d'empêcher les gens de s'égarer.
O scion of the Bharata dynasty, as the unelightened poeple act with attachment to work, so should the enlightened person act, without attachment, being desirous of the prevention of people from going astray.
L'homme ignorant travaille dans l'attente des fruits. Il dit : 'Je ferai tel ou tel travail et j'obtiendrai tel ou tel fruit.' Mais l'homme sage, qui connaît le Soi, ne sert pas pour sa propre fin. Il devrait agir de telle sorte que le monde, suivant son exemple, atteigne la paix, l'harmonie, la pureté du cœur, la lumière divine et la connaissance. Un homme sage est celui qui connaît le Soi. (Cf. II.64, III.19, XVIII.49).
The ignorant man works in expectation of fruits. He says? I will do such and such work and will get such and such fruit. But the wise man who knows the Self? serves not for his own end. He should so act that the world? following his example? would attain peace? harmony? purity of heart? divine light and knowledge. A wise man is one who knows the Self. (Cf.II.64III.19XVIII.49).
