न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचि- न्नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः | अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे ||२०||

ആത്മാവ് ഒരു കാലത്തും ജനിക്കുകയോ മരിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല; ഉണ്ടായിട്ട് പിന്നീട് ഇല്ലാതാകുന്നുമില്ല. ഇത് ജനിക്കാത്തതും നിത്യവും ശാശ്വതവും പുരാതനവുമാണ്. ശരീരം കൊല്ലപ്പെടുമ്പോഴും ആത്മാവ് കൊല്ലപ്പെടുന്നില്ല.
The soul is never born nor does it ever die; nor having once existed, does it cease to be. The soul is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, and primeval. It is not slain when the body is slain.
ആത്മാവിന്റെ അനശ്വരതയെയും മാറ്റമില്ലാത്ത സ്വഭാവത്തെയും ഈ ശ്ലോകം ഊന്നിപ്പറയുന്നു. ജനനമോ മരണമോ ഇല്ലാത്ത, എപ്പോഴും നിലനിൽക്കുന്ന, പുരാതനമായ ഒന്നാണ് ആത്മാവ്.
This is one of the most powerful declarations in the Gita. Krishna stacks six negations to describe the soul: not born, not dying, not ceasing, unborn (ajaḥ), eternal (nityaḥ), primeval (purāṇaḥ). The final line is devastating in its simplicity — even when the body is destroyed, the soul remains untouched.
