बुद्धिर्ज्ञानमसम्मोहः क्षमा सत्यं दमः शमः | सुखं दुःखं भवोऽभावो भयं चाभयमेव च
buddhirjñānamasammohaḥ kṣamā satyaṃ damaḥ śamaḥ . sukhaṃ duḥkhaṃ bhavo.abhāvo bhayaṃ cābhayameva ca
عقل، گیان (علم)، بے گمراہی، معافی، سچائی، ظاہری اعضاء پر قابو، باطنی اعضاء پر قابو، سکھ (خوشی)، دکھ (غم)، بھوَ (پیدائش)، اَبھاوَ (موت) اور خوف کے ساتھ ساتھ بے خوفی بھی؛
Intelligence, wisdom, non-delusion, forgiveness, truth, control of the external organs, control of the internal organs, happiness, sorrow, birth, death and fear as also fearlessness;
عقل وہ طاقت ہے جو اَنتَہ کرن (چار گنا اندرونی آلہ – من، لاشعور، عقل اور انا پرستی) کو باریک اشیاء کو سمجھنے کی صلاحیت دیتی ہے۔ گیان (حکمت) آتما کا علم ہے۔ بے گمراہی فریب سے آزادی ہے۔ اس میں کسی بھی لمحے جب کچھ کرنا یا جاننا ہو تو تمیز کے ساتھ عمل کرنا شامل ہے۔ صبر ذہن کی بے چینی نہ ہونا ہے جب حملہ کیا جائے یا گالی دی جائے۔ ان لوگوں کے لیے کسی نقصان یا برائی کا نہ سوچنا جنہوں نے حملہ کیا یا گالی دی، وہ بھی صبر ہے۔ صبر تین قسم کے دکھوں کو بغیر شکایت کے برداشت کرنا ہے: اَدھیاتمِک، اَدھیدَیوِک اور اَدھیبھَوتِک تاپس۔ بخار وغیرہ اَدھیاتمِک دکھ ہے۔ شدید سردی، گرمی، بہت زیادہ بارش، گرج اور بجلی سے ہونے والا درد یا تکلیف اَدھیدَیوِک دکھ ہے۔ بچھو کے ڈنک، سانپ کے کاٹنے اور جنگلی جانوروں سے ہونے والا درد اَدھیبھَوتِک دکھ ہے۔ سَتیم یا سچائی سچ بولنا ہے۔ یہ چیزوں کے اپنے حقیقی یا اصلی تجربے کو ویسے ہی بیان کرنا ہے جیسے وہ سنی یا دیکھی گئی ہوں۔ حقائق میں ذرا بھی توڑ مروڑ، مبالغہ آرائی یا معمولی تبدیلی نہیں ہوتی۔ دَمَ یا خود پر قابو ظاہری حواس پر قابو پانا ہے۔ یہ حواس (کان، جلد، آنکھیں، زبان اور ناک) کو ان کے متعلقہ اشیاء (یعنی آواز، لمس، شکل، لذیذ کھانے اور خوشبو) سے ہٹانا ہے۔ شَمَ ذہن کی وہ سکون یا اطمینان ہے جو ذہن کو حواس کے بیرونی اشیاء کے بارے میں سوچنے سے روک کر اور اسے حواس سے منقطع کر کے پیدا ہوتا ہے۔ سُکھ (خوشی) وہ ہے جو دھرم یا نیکی کو اپنا بنیادی سبب رکھتا ہے اور جو تمام مخلوقات کے لیے سازگار ہے، وہ سُکھ ہے۔ دُکھم (غم) وہ ہے جو اَدھرم کو اپنا سبب رکھتا ہے اور جو تمام مخلوقات کے لیے ناسازگار ہے، وہ دکھ ہے۔ جو ظاہر ہوتا ہے وہ بھوَ ہے۔ سَت (وجود) بھوَ ہے۔ اَسَت (عدم وجود) یا غیر حقیقت اَبھاوَ ہے۔
Intellect is the power which the Antahkarana (the fourfold inner instrument -- the mind? the subconscious mind? intellect and egoism) has of understanding subtle objects. Wisdom is knowledge of the Self. Nondelusion is freedom from illusion. It consists in acting with discrimination when anything has to be done or kown at the moment. Patience is the nonagitation of the mind when assaulted or abused. Not thinking of any harm of evil for those who ahve assulted or abused is also patience. Patience is enduring without lamentation the three kinds of pains? Adhyatmika? Adhidaivika and Adhibhautika Taapas. Fever? etc.? is Adhyatmika pain. Pain or discomfort from severe cold? heat? too much rain? thunder? and lightning is Adhidaivika pain. Pain from scorpionsting? snakite? and wild animals is Adhibhautika pain.Satyam or truth is veracity. It is speaking of ones own actual or real experience of things as actually heard or seen. There is not the least twisting or exaggeration or the slightest modification of facts. Dama or selfrestraint is control of the external senses. It is withdrawal of the senses (ear? skin? eyes? tongue and nose) from their respective objects (viz.? sound? touch? form? palatable foods and fragrance). Sama is calmness or tranillity of the mind produced by checking the mind from thinking of external objects of the senses and by disconnecting it from the senses.Sukham Happiness. That which has Dharma or virtue as its chief cause and that which is favourable to all beings? is happiness. Duhkham That which has Adhrama as its cause and that which is unfavourable to all beings? is pain.That which appears is Bhavah. Sat is Bhavah. Asat or unreality is Abhavah.
