अर्जुन उवाच | संन्यासं कर्मणां कृष्ण पुनर्योगं च शंससि | यच्छ्रेय एतयोरेकं तन्मे ब्रूहि सुनिश्चितम्
arjuna uvāca . saṃnyāsaṃ karmaṇāṃ kṛṣṇa punaryogaṃ ca śaṃsasi . yacchreya etayorekaṃ tanme brūhi suniścitam
ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು: ಓ ಕೃಷ್ಣ, ನೀನು ಕರ್ಮಗಳ ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತೀಯ, ಮತ್ತೆ ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗವನ್ನೂ ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತೀಯ. ಈ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದು ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಕರ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳು.
Arjuna said O Krsna, You praise renunciation of actions, and again, (Karma-) yoga. Tell me for certain that one which is better between these two.
ನೀನು ಕರ್ಮಗಳ ತ್ಯಾಗವನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳ ಆಚರಣೆಯನ್ನೂ ಬೋಧಿಸುತ್ತೀಯ. ಇದು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಗೊಂದಲಕ್ಕೀಡುಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಈಗ ಈ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದು ಉತ್ತಮ ಎಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಾಯಕವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳು. ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೆ ಏಕಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ 'ಯೋಗ' ಎಂದರೆ ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗ.
Thou teachest renunciation of actions and also their performance. This has confused me. Tell decisively now which is better. It is not possible for a man to resort to both of them at the same time. Yoga here means Karma Yoga. (Cf.III.2)
