श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात्स्वनुष्ठितात् | स्वभावनियतं कर्म कुर्वन्नाप्नोति किल्बिषम्
śreyānsvadharmo viguṇaḥ paradharmātsvanuṣṭhitāt . svabhāvaniyataṃ karma kurvannāpnoti kilbiṣam
గుణహీనమైనదైనను స్వధర్మము, బాగుగా ఆచరింపబడిన పరధర్మము కంటె శ్రేష్ఠము. స్వభావముచే నియతమైన కర్మను చేయుచున్నవాడు పాపమును పొందడు.
One's own duty, (though) defective, is superior to another's duty well performed. By performing a duty as dictated by one's own nature, one does not incur sin.
విషపూరితమైన పదార్థంలో పుట్టిన పురుగుకు ఆ విషము హాని చేయనట్లు, అదేవిధంగా తన స్వధర్మాన్ని (తన స్వభావానికి అనుగుణంగా నిర్దేశించబడిన కర్తవ్యం) నిర్వర్తించేవాడు ఎటువంటి పాపమును పొందడు. ప్రపంచం మొత్తానికి విషమైనది ఒక పురుగుకు తీపిగా ఉంటుంది, అయినప్పటికీ తీపిగా ఉండే చెరకు రసం దాని మరణానికి కారణమవుతుంది. కాబట్టి, ఒక వ్యక్తిని బంధాల నుండి విముక్తి చేసే అతని నియమిత కర్తవ్యాన్ని, అది ఎంత కష్టంగా అనిపించినా, ఆచరించాలి. మీరు మరొకరి కర్తవ్యాన్ని చేయడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తే అది ప్రమాదాన్ని తెస్తుంది. ఆత్మజ్ఞానము లేనివాడు ఒక్క క్షణం కూడా కర్మ చేయకుండా ఉండలేడు.
Just as a poisonous substance does not harm the worm born in that substance? so he who does his Svadharma (the duty ordained according to his own nature) does not incur any sin.What is poison to the whole world is sweet to a worm and yet sugarcane juice that is sweet causes its death. So a mans appointed duty which frees him from bondage must? therefore? be practised however difficult it may seem to be. If you try to do the duty of another it will bring,danger. He who has no knowledge of the Self cannot remain even for a moment without doing action. (Cf.III.35)
