सत्त्वं सुखे सञ्जयति रजः कर्मणि भारत | ज्ञानमावृत्य तु तमः प्रमादे सञ्जयत्युत
sattvaṃ sukhe sañjayati rajaḥ karmaṇi bhārata . jñānamāvṛtya tu tamaḥ pramāde sañjayatyuta
ఓ భారతా, సత్వగుణం సుఖమునందు ఆసక్తిని కలిగిస్తుంది, రజస్సు కర్మల యందు (ఆసక్తిని కలిగిస్తుంది). జ్ఞానాన్ని కప్పివేసి, తమస్సు అయితే ప్రమాదమునందు (అజాగ్రత్త) కూడా ఆసక్తిని కలిగిస్తుంది.
O scion of the Bharata dynasty, sattva attaches one to happiness, rajas to action, while tamas, covering up knowledge, leads to inadvertence also.
ఒక నల్లటి మేఘం సూర్యుడిని కప్పివేసినట్లుగా, తమస్సు జ్ఞానాన్ని లేదా ఆత్మ యొక్క కాంతిని ఆవహిస్తుంది. తమస్సు అజాగ్రత్త పట్ల, అంటే అజ్ఞానం లేదా కర్తవ్యాన్ని మరచిపోవడం లేదా అవసరమైన (నిర్బంధ) విధులను నిర్వర్తించకపోవడం పట్ల ఆసక్తిని సృష్టిస్తుంది.
Just as a dark cloud enshrouds the sun? so also Tamas envelops knowledge or the light of the Self. Tamas creates an attachment for heedlessness? that is? ignorance or forgetfulness of duty or the nonperformance of necessary (obligatory) duties.
