अथ चेत्त्वमिमं धर्म्यं संग्रामं न करिष्यसि | ततः स्वधर्मं कीर्तिं च हित्वा पापमवाप्स्यसि
atha cettvamimaṃ dharmyaṃ saṃgrāmaṃ na kariṣyasi . tataḥ svadharmaṃ kīrtiṃ ca hitvā pāpamavāpsyasi
D'autre part, si tu ne combats pas cette bataille juste, alors, ayant abandonné ton propre dharma et ta renommée, tu encourras le péché.
On the other hand, if you will not fight this righteous battle, then, forsaking your own duty and fame, you will incur sin.
Le Seigneur rappelle à Arjuna la renommée qu'il avait déjà acquise et qu'il perdrait s'il refusait de combattre. Arjuna avait acquis une grande renommée en combattant le Seigneur Shiva. Arjuna avait entrepris un pèlerinage dans l'Himalaya. Il combattit Shiva, qui apparut sous les traits d'un montagnard (Kirata), et obtint de Lui le Pāśupatāstra, une arme céleste.
The Lord reminds Arjuna of the fame he had already earned and which he would now lose if he refused to fight. Arjuna had acired great fame by fighting with Lord Siva. Arjuna proceeded on a pilgrimage to the Himalayas. He fought with Siva Who appeared in the guise of a mountaineer (Kirata) and got from Him the Pasupatastra? a celestial weapon.
