kārpaṇya-doṣhopahata-svabhāvaḥ pṛichchhāmi tvāṁ dharma-sammūḍha-chetāḥ yach chhreyaḥ syān niśhchitaṁ brūhi tan me śhiṣhyas te 'haṁ śhādhi māṁ tvāṁ prapannam
My nature is weighed down by weakness and confusion about my duty. Tell me decisively what is best for me. I am your disciple, surrendered to you — please instruct me.
This is the pivotal verse where Arjuna formally becomes a student. Three things happen: (1) he admits his weakness — "kārpaṇya-doṣhopahata"; (2) he admits confusion — "dharma-sammūḍha"; (3) he surrenders — "śhiṣhyas te'haṁ" (I am your student). This surrender triggers the entire teaching of the Gita.
