न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचि- न्नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः | अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे ||२०||

ஆத்மா ஒருபோதும் பிறப்பதுமில்லை, இறப்பதுமில்லை. ஒருமுறை தோன்றி மீண்டும் இல்லாமல் போவதுமில்லை. அது பிறப்பற்றது, நித்தியமானது, நிலையானது, புராதனமானது. உடல் அழிக்கப்படும்போதும் அது அழிக்கப்படுவதில்லை.
The soul is never born nor does it ever die; nor having once existed, does it cease to be. The soul is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, and primeval. It is not slain when the body is slain.
கீதையின் மிக சக்திவாய்ந்த அறிவிப்புகளில் இதுவும் ஒன்று. ஆத்மாவை விவரிக்க கிருஷ்ணர் ஆறு மறுப்புகளை அடுக்குகிறார்: பிறப்பதில்லை, இறப்பதில்லை, இல்லாமல் போவதில்லை, பிறப்பற்றது (அஜ:), நித்தியமானது (நித்ய:), புராதனமானது (புராண:). உடல் அழிக்கப்பட்டாலும் ஆத்மா பாதிக்கப்படுவதில்லை என்ற இறுதி வரி அதன் எளிமையில் ஆழமானது.
This is one of the most powerful declarations in the Gita. Krishna stacks six negations to describe the soul: not born, not dying, not ceasing, unborn (ajaḥ), eternal (nityaḥ), primeval (purāṇaḥ). The final line is devastating in its simplicity — even when the body is destroyed, the soul remains untouched.
