The Blessed Lord said That シュラダ of the embodied beings, born of their own nature, is threefold-born of sattva, rajas and tamas. Hear about it.

English

The Blessed Lord said That faith of the embodied beings, born of their own nature, is threefold-born of sattva, rajas and tamas. Hear about it.

解説 — 日本語

The whole world is made up? as if were? of シュラダ. シュラダ assumes a threefold aspect under the influence of the three alities. When Sattva is strongly developed? when there is a preponderance of Sattva or purity in a man? it is easy for him to attain Selfrealisation or the 知識 of 自己. If Rajas is predominant? the シュラダ becomes the handmaid of activity. If Tamas or inertia prevails? シュラダ is annihilated. Those who are endowed with Sattvic シュラダ aim at the attainment of 解脱. Those who are endowed with Rajasic シュラダ run after inferior duties or worldly activities. Those whose シュラダ is Tamasic are cruel. They kill animals for sacrifice. They invoke the spirits and talk with ghosts. When シュラダ is joined to Sattva? it leads to salvation. When Rajas preponderates? it colours the シュラダ and leads to various activities. When Tamas predominates? the シュラダ results in darkness.シュラダ acires different alities when it is in company with 心 of man. Mind is a thing of many colours. Just as the water of the Ganga is contaminated by being put in a vessel where lior had been kept? so also a virtuous person is spoiled by bad company or constant association with evil persons. The three Gunas or attributes colour the シュラダ of a man. 心 of a man is governed by the preponderating attribute or ality which manifests itself when the other two alities are suppressed. シュラダ takes a threefold aspect in accordance with the inherent nature or tendencies of the man. The inclinations of men are moulded according to their ality or inherent nature born of their past Samskaras. As is the tendency? so is the desire as is the desire? so is the 行動 as is the 行動? so is the 生 into another being after 死. 身体 is like the seed of the tree? a perpetual chain. Seed perishes in developing into a tree and the tree again produces the seed. This process or cycle continues eternally. Even so man takes a body? does 行動s? develops tendencies? dies and puts,on a new body in accordance with the nature or tendencies. This continues till he gets 知識 of 自己 by transcending the three Gunas? when タマス(無知)? the root cause of 生 and 死? is destroyed.シュラダ is born of the individual nature? i.e.? the Samskaras or the latent impressions of virtuous and vicious 行動s which were performed in the past 生s and which manifested themselves at the time of 死. In the subconscious mind or the Chitta there is a reservoir of past impressions which are revived through the operation of memory.Sattvic シュラダ in the worship of gods? which is an effect of Sattva.Rajasic シュラダ in the worship of the Yakshas and Rakshasas? which is an effect of Rajas.Tamasic シュラダ in the worship of the disembodied spirits and ghosts? which is an effect of Tamas.シュラダ is the main support of life. It is not mere intellectual belief or blind acceptance of pet dogmas or doctrines. You must understand clearly its characteristics? just as you recognise a tree from the fruits? 心 of a man from his speech? and the 行動s of previous 生 from worldly 喜びs and 痛みs.Svabhavaja Inherent in their nature born of past Samskaras.Tam Of it? referring to the threefold シュラダ.

The whole world is made up? as if were? of faith. Faith assumes a threefold aspect under the influence of the three alities. When Sattva is strongly developed? when there is a preponderance of Sattva or purity in a man? it is easy for him to attain Selfrealisation or the knowledge of the Self. If Rajas is predominant? the faith becomes the handmaid of activity. If Tamas or inertia prevails? faith is annihilated. Those who are endowed with Sattvic faith aim at the attainment of liberation. Those who are endowed with Rajasic faith run after inferior duties or worldly activities. Those whose faith is Tamasic are cruel. They kill animals for sacrifice. They invoke the spirits and talk with ghosts. When faith is joined to Sattva? it leads to salvation. When Rajas preponderates? it colours the faith and leads to various activities. 17.1アルジュナは言った But, ['But' is used to present a standpoint distinct from the earlier ones understand from 16.23-4.-S.] O Krsna, what is the state [i.e., where do the rites undertaken by them end?] of those who, endued with シュラダ, adore [Adore-perform sacrifices, distribute wealth etc. in honour of gods and others.] by ignoring the injunctions of the scriptures? Is it sattva, rajas or tamas?17.3O scion of the Bharata dynasty, the シュラダ of all beings is in accordance with their minds. This person is made up of シュラダ as the dominant factor. He is verily what his シュラダ is.17.4Those having the sattva ality worship the gods; those having rajas, the demi-gods and ogres; and other people possessed of tamas worship ghosts and the hosts of spirits.17.5Those persons who, given to ostentation and pride, and possessed of ラジャス(激情), 執着 and strength, undertake severe austerities not sanctioned in the scriptures;17.6(And who,) being non-discriminating, torture, all the organs in 身体 as also even Me who reside in 身体,-know them as possessed of demoniacal conviction.17.7Food also, which is dear to all, is of 三種類; and so also are sacrifices, austerity and charity. Listen to this classification of them.17.8Foods that augment life, firmless of mind, strength, health, 幸福 and delight, and which are succulent, oleaginous, substantial and agreeable, are dear to one endowed with sattva.17.9Foods that are bitter, sour, salty, very hot, pungent, dry and burning, and which production 痛み, sorrow and disease, are dear to one having rajas.17.10Food which is not properly cooked, lacking in essence, putrid and stale, and even ort and that which is unfit for sacrifice, is dear to one possessed of tamas.17.11That sacrifice which is in accordance with the injunctions, (and is) performed by persons who do not hanker after results, and with the mental conviction that it is surely obligatory, is done through sattva.
