इन्द्रियाणि पराण्याहुरिन्द्रियेभ्यः परं मनः | मनसस्तु परा बुद्धिर्यो बुद्धेः परतस्तु सः
indriyāṇi parāṇyāhurindriyebhyaḥ paraṃ manaḥ . manasastu parā buddhiryo buddheḥ paratastu saḥ
感覚器官は(粗大な肉体よりも)優れていると言われる。感覚器官よりも心(マナス)が優れており、心よりも知性(ブッディ)が優れている。しかし、知性よりもさらに優れているのは、彼(アートマン)である。
They say that the organs are superior (to the gross body); the mind is superior to the organs; but the intellect is superior to the mind. However, the one who is superior to the intellect is He.
粗大で外的、限定的な肉体と比較して、感覚器官はより微細で内的な活動範囲が広いため、確かに優れています。感覚器官が心(マナス)の助けなしには独立して何もできないため、心は感覚器官よりも優れています。心には五感の機能を行う能力があります。知性(ブッディ)は識別能力を備えているため、心よりも優れています。心が疑念の状態にあるとき、知性がそれを救います。そして、知性がアートマンからその光を借りているため、アートマン(真我、目撃者)は知性よりもさらに優れています。
When compared with the physical body which is gross? external and limited? the senses are certainly superior as they are more subtle? internal and have a wider range of activity. The mind is superior to the senses? as the senses cannot do anything independently without the help of the mind. The mind can perform the functions of the five senses. The intellect is superior to the mind because it is endowed with the faculty of discrimination. When the mind is in a state of doubt? the intellect comes to its resuce. The Self? the Witness? is superior even to the intellect? as the intellect borrows its light from the Self.
