अथ चेत्त्वमिमं धर्म्यं संग्रामं न करिष्यसि | ततः स्वधर्मं कीर्तिं च हित्वा पापमवाप्स्यसि
atha cettvamimaṃ dharmyaṃ saṃgrāmaṃ na kariṣyasi . tataḥ svadharmaṃ kīrtiṃ ca hitvā pāpamavāpsyasi
しかし、もしあなたがこの正義の戦いをしないならば、あなたは自身のダーマ（義務）と名声を捨て去り、罪を負うことになるだろう。
On the other hand, if you will not fight this righteous battle, then, forsaking your own duty and fame, you will incur sin.
神はアルジュナに、彼がすでに得ていた名声と、もし戦いを拒否すればそれを失うことになるということを思い出させます。アルジュナはシヴァ神との戦いによって大きな名声を得ていました。アルジュナはヒマラヤへの巡礼に出かけ、山人（キラータ）の姿で現れたシヴァ神と戦い、彼から天界の武器であるパーシュパターストラを得たのです。
The Lord reminds Arjuna of the fame he had already earned and which he would now lose if he refused to fight. Arjuna had acired great fame by fighting with Lord Siva. Arjuna proceeded on a pilgrimage to the Himalayas. He fought with Siva Who appeared in the guise of a mountaineer (Kirata) and got from Him the Pasupatastra? a celestial weapon.
